Glass Animals: Pioneers of Psychedelic Pop

Formed in 2010, Glass Animals comprises childhood friends Dave Bayley (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Drew MacFarlane (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), Edmund Irwin-Singer (bass, keyboards, backing vocals), and Joe Seaward (drums). Their debut album, Zaba (2014), introduced their genre-blending style, featuring the breakout single “Gooey,” which achieved platinum status in the U.S.

The band’s sophomore effort, How to Be a Human Being (2016), showcased their storytelling prowess, with each track narrating a unique character’s tale. This album received critical acclaim, winning UK Album of the Year and Self-Producing Artist of the Year at the 2018 MPG Awards, and earning a spot on the Mercury Prize shortlist.

In 2020, Glass Animals released Dreamland, an introspective project reflecting on frontman Dave Bayley’s personal experiences. The album’s standout track, “Heat Waves,” gained viral popularity on TikTok, reaching number one in Australia and on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and amassing over two billion streams on Spotify by September 2022.

Continuing their innovative trajectory, the band announced their fourth studio album, I Love You So F*ing Much, in 2024. The lead single, “Creatures in Heaven,” was released on April 3, 2024, followed by “A Tear In Space (Airlock)” on June 7, 2024. The album debuted on July 19, 2024, to mixed reviews, reflecting the band’s evolving sound and willingness to explore new musical territories.
